Choosing a Plan

With all the meal plan options, choosing the right plan seem like a daunting task. It doesn’t have to be.

Choosing the right meal plan is all about understanding you. Think about your lifestyle, extra-curricular activities and dining habits. Choose a plan that’s all about you!

If you have already chosen your meal plan and are a student living on main campus, make your selection using the online selector. If you are purchasing an optional meal plan, you can buy online.

Advice from Queen’s students on how to choose a meal plan!

Step 2: Consider the following questions when thinking about your meal plan options:

If breakfast plays an important part in your day, chances are you’ll need more meals to get you through the week. If you have breakfast on the go, you’ll need more A.M.P. dollars or My Funds. If you like to enjoy an all you care to eat hot breakfast everyday, you’ll need more meals than A.M.P. dollars/My Funds.

Where do I spend most of my time?

Think about where you spend most of your time. If you’re in a main campus residence, chances are you’ll enjoy more all-you-care to eat meals at Leonard Dining Hall and Ban Righ Dining Hall as well as snacks and lunches on the run at the Lazy Scholar, Mackintosh Corry Hall or at the Queen’s Centre.

If you live on West Campus, take into account you’ll spend a lot of time during the day on main campus near Leonard and Ban Righ Dining Halls and many retail outlets. In the evenings you’ll be back at West Campus – home to what is rumoured to be the best dining hall on campus. We highly recommend you consider a Tax Exempt Meal Plan. This way, you’ll be able to choose a mix of retail and all you-care-to eat dining halls!

Am I always on the run at lunch time?

You can swipe your card and get a bagged lunch to go from Leonard Dining Hall during the week or use one of your 200 cash equivalencies available with your main campus or tax exempt meal plan at any of our retail food outlets.

Do I eat out or off campus on weekends?

Think about how frequently you will be going home and eating off campus. This will help you plan out how many meals per week you need to purchase and how many A.M.P. Dollars/My Funds you need to get you through the year.

Remember, you can top up your A.M.P. Dollars and My Funds at anytime throughout the academic year*.

What are my current dining habits? Do I eat three full meals a day, or smaller, more frequent meals?

Campus life is filled with extra curricular activities, course work, social events and friends. Understanding how this affects your dining habits is very important when it comes to choosing the right meal plan.

Think about how much you eat and where you may find yourself during the day. If you graze, you may find yourself benefiting more from a meal plan that offers more A.M.P. Dollars or My Funds. If you enjoy eating three full meals a day with a mix of dining and retail options, you’ll enjoy one of our tax exempt meal plans.
